Ohakune is the ideal starting point for many activities on and around the mountain including canoeing holidays in the Whanganui National Park, fantastic fishing around the region, numerous walks/tramps on and around the mountains & quality golf on our local Waimarino course which has fantastic mountain views.
With the Tongariro National Park at our doorstep, the walks and scenery are second to none, including the World famous "Tongariro Alpine Crossing", which has been described as "the best one day walk New Zealand has to offer". Our guests are picked up, driven to the start off point, and returned after the walk is completed with a local transport provider.
Perhaps you've heard of the infamous "Ruapehu Downhill Ride". 14 km of freewheeling from the Turoa skifield down to the township - choose your own speed - mountain bike hire also available in town.
Or have you tried the "Old Coach Trail" from Horopito to Ohakune - a 17k medium grade trail.
